What is BS EN 1672‑2 about?

BS EN 1672‑2 is second in the series of European standards on food processing machinery. BS EN 1672‑2 specifies common hygiene and cleanability requirements for machinery and machine components used in preparing and processing food for humans and, where relevant, animal feed processing to eliminate or minimize the risk of contagion, infection, illness, or injury arising from this food to an acceptable level.

Note 2: BS EN 1672‑2 does not deal with the hygiene-related risks to operators arising from the use of the machine.

Why should you use BS EN 1672‑2?

The objective of cleaning and sanitizing food contact surfaces is to remove food that bacteria need to grow and to kill those bacteria that are present. It is important that the clean, sanitized equipment and surfaces drain dry and are stored dry to prevent bacteria growth.

BS EN 1672‑2 helps users by providing general guidance and specifies common hygiene and cleanability requirements for machinery and machine components that are used in preparing and processing food for humans and animals.

BS EN 1672‑2 provides requirements for machinery, components or other equipment used for other purposes than food preparing or processing if cleanability is required.

BS EN 1672‑2 helps users to eliminate or minimize the risk of contagion, infection, illness or injury arising from food that remains at the surface of the food processing machinery by providing necessary requirements. You will also be able to identify the hazards that are related to the food processing machinery and adopt the necessary measures for eliminating or reducing these risks.

What is changed since the last update?

BS EN 1672‑2:2020 supersedes EN 1672-2:2005+A1:2009. BS EN 1672‑2:2020 includes some technical changes with respect to EN 1672-2:2005+A1:2009. These include:
