BS EN 12268 is an international standard on food processing machinery that discusses the safety and hygiene of band saw machines to ensure protection against machinery hazards.
BS EN 12268 specifies requirements for the design and manufacturing of band saw machines as described in 1.2.
BS EN 12268 deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations, and events relevant to the band saw machines when they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are foreseeable by the manufacturer.
BS EN 12268 deals with the hazards that can arise during all the lifetime of the machine, including the phases of transport, assembly, commissioning, operation, cleaning, use, maintenance, decommissioning, dismantling, disabling, and scrapping of the machine.
The machines covered by this European Standard are used to cut:
BS EN 12268 covers the following types of machines:
Note1: The band saw machines covered by BS EN 12268 do not include band saw machines for processing wood and similar materials which are covered by the EN 1807 series.
Note2: Band saw machines for domestic use are not included in BS EN 12268.
BS EN 12268 on the safety and hygiene requirements of band saw machines is useful for:
Hazards associated with working near or on machinery vary depending on the exact machine used but can include exposure to moving parts (e.g., risk of injuries from entanglement, friction, abrasion, cutting, severing, shearing, stabbing, puncturing, impact, crushing, drawing-in or trapping, etc.)
BS EN 12268 provides you with a list of significant hazards, safety, and hygiene requirements and/or measures, mechanical hazards, electrical hazards, safety requirements related to electromagnetic phenomena, noise test code for band saw machines and much more.
The requirements provided by BS EN 12268 assist you in improving the quality and performance of band saw machines and ensure protection to workers against the risk of mechanical hazards, electrical hazards, hazards generated by neglecting hygienic design principles, hazards generated by neglecting ergonomic principles.
With obedience and compliance to BS EN 12268, you can enhance the efficacy of the band saw machines and manufacture a standardized product.
BS EN 12268:2014 supersedes EN 12268:2003+A1:2010, which is withdrawn. BS EN 12268:2014 has made some technical changes compared to the previous editions EN 12268:2003+A1:2010. These include:
