What is ISO 5598 about?  

ISO 5598 discusses fluid power systems and components. Fluid power is the use of fluids under pressure to generate, control, and transmit power. Fluid power is subdivided into hydraulics using a liquid such as mineral oil or water, and pneumatics using a gas such as air or other gases. ISO 5598 establishes the vocabulary, in English, French and German, for all fluid power systems and components, excluding aerospace applications and compressed air supply installations.

Why should you use ISO 5598?  

The purpose of ISO 5598 is:  

• To provide pertinent terms having a specific meaning in fluid power technology. 
• To include common dictionary or engineering terms only when they are the generic root for a series of terms specific to fluid power technology 
• To refer synonymous terms to the preferred term 
• To list deprecated terms, but to define and clearly mark these terms as such and to indicate the preferred term.
