What is BS EN 13618 - Flexible hoses about?  

BS EN 13618 is an international standard used for flexible hose assemblies in drinking water installations. Using BS EN 13618 you can produce and assemble better quality hoses that helps in transporting the drinking water safely.  

BS EN 13618 specifies the requirements and test methods for materials, dimensions and function for flexible hose assemblies for drinking water installations, braided or not, designed for use with drinking water with an allowable maximum operating pressure (PMA) of 1 MPa and maximum operating temperature 70 °C to connect sanitary tapware, heaters and similar appliances. 

Note: Flexible hose assemblies intended to be used as integral parts of electrical appliances are covered by EN 61770 [1].

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS EN 13618:2016 supersedes BS EN 13618:2011. BS EN 13618:2016 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 13618:2011. These include: 

• The stress corrosion testing is carried out with ammonium only; 
• Requirement and test method for resistance of seat of female fitting are deleted 
• In Table 8, specific minimum flow rates and minimum bore diameters are left open 
• For testing the pressure jumps resistance, detailed specification for DN and applied test pressure are given 
• New test methods for corrosion resistance and UV resistance are introduced 
• In Table A.2, the dimensions C are reduced 
• In hydraulic performance and durability test, the number of impulses is reduced 
• The recommended surveillance testing of specific functional requirements is introduced
