BS EN 15004-6 is part sixth of a multi-series containing specific requirements for gaseous fire-extinguishing systems, with respect to the HFC 23 extinguishant.
BS EN 15004-6 includes details of physical properties, specification, usage, and safety aspects and is applicable to systems operating at a nominal pressure of 41 bar without nitrogen super pressurization and 70 bar super pressurized with nitrogen.
BS EN 15004-6 on gas extinguishing systems for HFC 23 extinguishant is useful for:
Gas extinguishing systems are fire extinguishing systems that utilize gaseous extinguishing agents to extinguish a fire via oxygen displacement. HFC 23 which is used as an extinguishant, is a colourless, almost odourless, electrically non-conductive gas with a density 2,4 times that of air. Such gaseous extinguishants are used when water, foam or powder are ineffective and may cause damages.
BS EN 15004-6 ensures structural stability during fire exposure and restricts fire spread as much as possible. They aim to allow adequate time for firefighting and rescue operations while limiting monetary losses.
As a result, users of BS EN 15004-6, will be able to effectively remove heat energy from the fire in such a way that combustion cannot occur. In addition, free radicals released during combustion inhibit chain reactions of the fire and consequently end fires.
BS EN 15004-6:2020 supersedes BS EN 15004‑6:2008, which is withdrawn.
