What is ISO/TS 17755-2 about?  

ISO/TS 17755-2 defines terminology relating to fire statistical data. 

ISO/TS 17755-2 harmonizes and collects the definitions of certain terms commonly used in fire statistical data within the framework of ISO. ISO/TS 17755-2 is the only terminology guide used for ISO/TS 17755-2 series of International Standards.  

Note: ISO/TS 17755-2 supplements ISO 13943 for application to fire statistics. 

Who is ISO/TS 17755-2 for? 

ISO/TS 17755-2 on fire safety-statistical data collection is useful for: 

• Experts involved in fire safety  
• Forest fire and safety departments 
• Statistics and data handling authorities 

Why should you use ISO/TS 17755-2? 

Data collection is of prime importance in fire safety, for several reasons: assessing the effect of any regulation, providing probability and gravity data to fire risk analysis, and the selection of scenarios for examples in fire safety engineering. Statistical data collection of fires is nevertheless collected and analysed from local or national perspectives under ISO/TS 17755-2. Thus, ISO/TS 17755-2 identifies that the need for harmonization is the issue of terminology. 

Generally, experts involved in fire safety who work on international and national fire statistics databases face three main issues: 

• A lack of common terminology (many terms have different definitions) 
• A lack of common methodology 
• Some weaknesses in the training and qualification of fire investigators 

In order to harmonize the existing definitions within ISO, ISO/TS 17755-2 helps you by proposing a common methodology for collecting fire statistics.
