BS EN 54-12 is the 12 part of the BS EN 54 specifies requirements, test methods and performance criteria for line detectors using an optical beam that detect smoke by utilizing the attenuation and/or changes in attenuation of an optical beam, for use in fire detection and fire alarm systems installed in buildings (see BS EN 54-1:2011). BS EN 54-12 provides for the assessment and verification of constancy of performance (AVCP) of line detectors using an optical beam to this EN.
Note: BS EN 54-12 does not cover:
BS EN 54-12 on portable foam equipment is useful for:
An optical beam smoke detector is a device that uses a projected beam of light to detect smoke across large areas. BS EN 54-12 provides requirements that can be followed while manufacturing the smoke detectors. This will ensure the quality and maintain the standard in factory production. BS EN 54-12 provides test methods that help determine the efficiency and the performance of the smoke detectors which ensure their durability.
BS EN 54-12:2015 supersedes BS EN 54-12:2002. BS EN 54-12:2015 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 54-12:2002. These include:
