PD CEN/TS 54-32 discusses fire detection and fire alarm systems. PD CEN/TS 54-32 provides guidelines for the planning, design, installation, commissioning, use, maintenance, and modification of voice alarm systems in and around buildings that broadcast information for the protection of lives in a fire emergency.
These guidelines cover voice alarm systems that are triggered automatically by fire detection and fire alarm system or that are manually triggered, or both.
NOTE:1 CEN/TS 54-14 provides guidelines for these systems
NOTE:2 When used for emergencies other than those due to fire, it might be appropriate to modify the guidance in this Technical Specification.
PD CEN/TS 54-32 on a voice alarm system is relevant to:
A voice alarm system (VAS) is installed with the safety of staff and the general public in mind. It is a system that assists in the effective evacuation of an area or building during a fire, bomb alert, or another emergency.
PD CEN/TS 54-32 provides guidelines on VAS, safety requirements, assessment of needs, Consultation, Local, regional, or national requirements, VAS control, and indicating equipment and documentation that ensures the right use of voice alarm systems.
Thus, PD CEN/TS 54-32 ensures voice alarm systems maintain overall integrity during operation, as a result contributing to timely and successful fire response in the event of an emergency. Moreover, with the industry guidelines of PD CEN/TS 54-32, incidents of delayed and false alarms, poor network communication, and the risk of inaudible warning signals can be avoided.
