PD CEN/TS 54-14 is a European standard on fire detection and fire alarm systems. The main objective of the series is to establish efficient systems that play a positive role during a fire emergency.
PD CEN/TS 54-14 is the 14th part of the series that provides guidelines for the application of automatic fire detection and fire alarm systems in and around buildings. The guideline covers planning, design, installation, commissioning, use, and maintenance of the systems.
PD CEN/TS 54-14 cover systems with control and indicating equipment and at least one manual call point or one fire detector.
PD CEN/TS 54-14 does not recommend whether or not an automatic fire detection and/or fire alarm system should be installed in any given premises.

The fire detection function is to detect a fire at the earliest practicable moment, and to give signals and indications so that appropriate action can be taken.
The guidelines in PD CEN/TS 54-14 cover systems intended for the protection of life and/or the protection of property.
In the event of a fire PD CEN/TS 54-14-compliant systems may be capable of providing signals to initiate the operation of ancillary equipment (such as fixed fire extinguishing systems) and other precautions and actions (such as machinery shutdown or remote transmission of alarms).
Thus, PD CEN/TS 54-14 ensures the fire detection and fire alarm systems maintain overall integrity during operation, thus contributing to a timely and successful fire response in the event of an emergency. Moreover, with the best industry guidelines, incidents of delayed and false alarms, poor network communication, and risk of inaudible warning signals can be avoided.
PD CEN/TS 54-14:2018 supersedes PD CEN/TS 54-14:2004, which is withdrawn. As compared to the previous version, the following changes have been made:
