What is BS EN 13501-1 - Fire classification using data from reaction to fire tests about? 

BS EN 13501-1 is the first part of the multi-series standard that is applicable to construction products and building elements. 

BS EN 13501-1 provides the reaction to the fire classification procedure for all construction products, including products incorporated within building elements with the exception of power, control and communication cables which are covered by EN 13501-6. 

Products are considered in relation to their end-use application.

The aim of BS EN 13501-1 is to define a harmonized procedure for the classification of reaction to fire of construction products.  

BS EN 13501-1 applies to three categories, which are treated separately: 

• Construction products, excluding floorings and linear pipe thermal insulation products 
• Floorings 
• Linear pipe thermal insulation products 

BS EN 13501-1 provides background information concerning the reaction to fire classification of a product that, in its end-use application will help you to know the generation and spread of fire and smoke within the room of origin or in a given area. 

What’s changed since the last update? 

BS EN 13501-1:2018 supersedes EN 13501-1:2007+A1:2009, which is withdrawn.
