BS EN ISO 1141:2021

What is ISO 1141 about?  

ISO 1141 specifies requirements braided polyester ropes. ISO 1141 discusses 3-strand hawser-laid and 4-strand shroud-laid ropes, 8-strand braided ropes, and 12-strand braided ropes for general service made of polyester. ISO 1141 also gives rules for the designation of these ropes. 

Note: ISO 1141 does not cover all variations in the strength or product performance. The rope manufacturer is consulted to ensure the intended design meets the requirements of the application. 

Who is ISO 1141 for? 

ISO 1141 on polyester ropes is useful for: 

• Polyester rope manufacturers 
• Suppliers of polyester raw materials  

Why should you use ISO 1141?  

Ropes are made from different base materials. Polyester is one of the most popular materials for braided ropes. ISO 1141 includes detailed diagrams illustrating the appearance of each type of rope – the 3-strand hawser-laid, the 4-strand shroud-laid ropes, the 8-strand braided ropes, and the 12-strand braided rope. In addition, ISO 1141 also includes specifications for minimum breaking strength for polyester ropes. 

What’s changed since the last update? 

BS EN ISO 1141:2021 supersedes ISO 1141:2012. BS EN ISO 1141:2021 includes some technical changes with respect to ISO 1141:2012. These include: 

• In the Scope, a statement specifying that the document does not cover all variations in the strength or product performance has been added 
• The term "minimum breaking strength" has been added 
• The tolerances in linear density have been modified
