What is ISO 18692‑3 about?  

ISO 18692 discusses fibre ropes for offshore stationkeeping. ISO 18692‑3, the third part of the multi-series, discusses one such rope type - high modulus polyethylene (HMPE) ropes. ISO 18692‑3 specifies the main characteristics and test methods for HMPE ropes used for offshore station keeping.

Why should you use ISO 18692‑3?  

Ropes have been traditionally made from natural fibres. HMPE is a special form of conventional polyethylene, that is lightweight, yet stronger and stiffer than conventional polyethylene.   

ISO 18692‑3 states the characteristics and general test methods of HMPE fibre ropes that are used for mooring. HMPE mooring system can be engineered to have similar performance as a polyester system in deep water applications, including survivability and station keeping ability. 

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS ISO 18692‑3:2020 supersedes ISO/TS 14909:2012. BS ISO 18692‑3:2020  

includes an editorial change with respect to ISO/TS 14909:2012. The change is as follows: 

• The document previously published as a Technical Specification has been reorganized as the new ISO 18692-3, taking into account the content of ISO 18692-1:2018.
