What is BS EN IEC 61757‑5‑1 about?  

BS EN IEC 61757 is a series on fibre optic sensors. A fibre-optic sensor is a sensor that uses fibre either as the sensing element ("intrinsic sensors") or as a means of relaying signals from a remote sensor to the electronics that process the signals ("extrinsic sensors"). BS EN IEC 61757‑5‑1 specifies fibre Bragg gratings (FBG) tilt sensor that can be made of various materials and with various forms as a segment of optical fibre with one or more fibre Bragg gratings sensors (in the following denoted Bragg grating fibre).  

BS EN IEC 61757‑5‑1 defines the terminology, structure, characteristics and their measurement methods including the procedures, for an optical tilt sensor based on fibre Bragg gratings (FBGs) as the sensitive element.  

The fibre Bragg gratings tilt sensor is capable of measuring both absolute and relative tilt, but it is more suitable for tilt monitoring using relative tilt changes. The reference axis for absolute tilt measurements is the vertical axis.
