BS EN 61753 is a series on fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components performance standards. Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components do not require electrical-to-optical or optical-to-electrical conversion during their operation. BS EN 61753-061-3 contains the minimum requirements and severities that a fibre optic isolator shall satisfy to be categorised as meeting the requirements of isolator devices used in uncontrolled environments. Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components are widely used by people as a promising solution for modern access to telecommunication networks. All test methods are in accordance with a specific IEC 61300 standard, of which the parts applicable to this standard are mentioned in BS EN 61753-061-3. The samples are terminated onto single-mode fibres as per IEC 60793-1-1 Type B1.1 in either coated fibres (primary and secondary) or reinforced cable format. Each test defines the number of samples to be evaluated.
Attenuation and return loss performances are given only for non-connectors isolators. For connectors components, the connector performances follow IEC 61753-2-1. During the environmental tests where monitoring of the isolator is needed, all ports of the device are controlled.
