BS 5551-2.8 is an international standard that covers the preparation of fertilizer samples for chemical and physical analysis, that facilitates sampling and analysis of solid fertilizers for analysis of micronutrients, potency and safety of fertilizers.
BS 5551-2.8 specifies methods for the preparation of test samples and test portions from laboratory samples of solid fertilizer for subsequent chemical or physical analysis. BS 5551-2.8 is applicable to all solid fertilizers.
Note: BS 5551-2.8 does not cover the preparation of samples for certain physical tests which require test portions of more than 2 kg.
BS 5551-2.8 on the preparation of fertilizer samples for chemical and physical analysis applies to:
Solid fertilizers are nutrients that are dried for plant growth in agricultural applications. Granular fertilizers vary in size and consistency based on the brand and the source of the product. Solid fertilizers come in form of powder, crystals, granules. Sampling of fertilizers is necessary for the analysis of micro-nutrients and quality of the fertilizer.
BS 5551-2.8 provides users guidance on the procedure for sampling including, preparation of test samples in original condition, further preparation of samples, and preparation of samples for chemical analysis. BS 5551-2.8 also provides users with a step-by-step procedure for the preparation, enabling users to prepare the samples correctly for use in further analysis.
BS 5551-2.8 provides users guidance on principle, apparatus, procedure, labelling, sample preparation report and schematic diagram of sampling process, enabling the sampling of fertilizers for chemical and physical analysis.
With obedience and compliance of BS 5551-2.8, users can prepare samples of solid fertilizers for further analysis and testing of physical and chemical aspects, ensuring the stability, potency and fertility in agricultural applications.
