BS EN 15705 is a European standard that serves technical specifications for determining urea condensates in fertilizers, ensuring reduction of nitrogen loss and reduced thatch build-up in agricultural applications.
BS EN 15705 specifies methods for the determination of isobutylidenediurea (IBDU), crotonylidenediurea (CDU) (method A) and methylene-urea oligomers (MU) (method B) in fertilizers using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
BS EN 15705 method is applicable to all fertilizers which do not contain interfering organic compounds.
BS EN 15705 on determining urea condensates in fertilizers applies to:
Fertilizers containing the condensates of urea and specified aldehydes are covered by Annex I of the Regulation (EC) 2003/2003 [1] as nitrogenous fertilizers. Determination of urea condensates enables the quantitative determination of these condensates and the determination of the solubility of the MU-oligomers according to the Regulation.
BS EN 15705 provides users guidance on the high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method for determining IBDU, CDU in method A and MU in method B in fertilizers. BS EN 15705 also provides users with a step-by-step procedure for the method, enabling users to do the method correctly.
BS EN 15705 provides users guidance on terms, sampling, sample preparation, method A for CDU and IBDU, method B for MU, precision for both methods, test report, chromatogram and calibration curves for both methods, enabling the accurate determination of urea condensates.
With obedience and compliance of BS EN 15705, users can determine urea condensates in fertilizers, increasing nitrogen use efficiency and promoting plant growth for increased crop yields in agricultural applications.
