What is ISO 6501 about? 

ISO 6501 is a standard that provides standardized specification and delivery requirements for Ferronickel. 

ISO 6501 specifies the technical delivery requirements for the various forms of ferronickel (ingots, pieces and shot) usually supplied for steel making and foundry use. 

ISO 6501 provides information on ordering, a chemical composition which includes - a form of delivery – ingots, pieces, shot, and control for Ferronickel specification and delivery requirements. 

Who is ISO 6501 for? 

ISO 6501 on specification and delivery requirements for ferronickel is applicable to: 

• Manufacturers of ferronickel and ferronickel components 
• Suppliers and importers of ferronickel and ferronickel components 
• Steel foundries 

Why should you use ISO 6501? 

Ferronickel is used to make steel and other ferrous alloys. It is commonly used in manufacturing batteries, electronics and gas turbines. Ferronickel is widely used in the engineering, transport, electronics and construction sectors.  

ISO 6501 provides you information on orders, requirements, control and classification that enable you to standardize the specification and delivery requirements of ferronickel for quality assessment purposes. 

What’s changed since the last update? 

BS EN ISO 6501:2020 supersedes BS EN 26501:1992, which is now withdrawn. 

Changes in BS EN ISO 6501:2020 include – 

• Expressions such as “agreement between parties” have been reduced or eliminated (because if a standard or part of it is to be agreed upon, there is no need for that International Standard) 
• The ferronickel delivery market requirements have been updated 
• FeNi classification has been clarified according to chemical composition and combination of Ni content (Table 1) and impurities (Table 2), this was previously in one table
