BS EN 14104:2021

What is BS EN 14104 about?  

BS EN 14104 discusses fat and oil derivatives. BS EN 14104 specifies a titrimetric method for the determination of acid value in light coloured Fatty Acid Methyl Esters hereinafter referred as FAME. BS EN 14104 allows the determination of acid value within a range of 0,10 mg KOH/g to 1,00 mg KOH/g. 

NOTE 1: For the purposes of this document, the terms “% (m/m)” and “% (V/V)” are used to represent respectively the mass fraction and the volume fraction. 

NOTE 2: For oils and fats the determination of acid value is specified in EN ISO 660 [1].

Why should you use BS EN 14104?  

FAMEs analysis is a useful tool both for characterizing fats and oils and for determining the total fat content in foods. 

BS EN 14104 helps you to determine the fat content in oil derivatives to assess their suitability for processing steps and analyses the fat content of finished products as part of quality control.  

What is changed since the last update?  

BS EN 14104 supersedes EN 14104:2003. BS EN 14104 includes some technical changes with respect to EN 14104:2003. These include: 

• Clause 5 “Reagents” revised for clarification 
• Automated titration system applying optical detection added as alternative and editorially revised
