This British Standard provides guidance for owners, operators and occupants in their decision-making towards an appropriate strategy for the management of their workplaces. It identifies the questions and challenges to be addressed to enable owners, operators and occupants to determine their workplace strategy as a key input to a management of change process. It makes recommendations on practices to be adopted and explains the reasoning behind them.
This British Standard is intended to be used by organizations as owners, operators or occupants and those acting on their behalf, for example, facility managers and their teams.
This British Standard does not cover workplace options or offer design solutions. The nature of some workplaces, such as hospitals and laboratories, necessitates specialized arrangements which are not covered in this standard.
NOTE See BS 8536 for guidance on the design, manufacture, construction and operation of facilities.
This British Standard is intended to strengthen workplace management by:

promoting a healthy, safe, secure and productive work environment that enhances the wellbeing of occupants, visitors and other users of the workplace.
