BS EN IEC 60079-19 is a part of an international multi-series standard that discusses equipment safety in an explosive atmosphere.
BS EN IEC 60079-19 includes the repair, overhaul, and reclamation of the electrical equipment in an explosive atmosphere. It gives instructions, principally of a technical nature, on the repair, overhaul, reclamation, and modification of Ex equipment designed for use in explosive atmospheres.
BS EN IEC 60079-19 applies to overhaul and repair which mitigates deficiencies identified during operation, inspection, and maintenance.
Note 1: BS EN IEC 60079-19 does not give advice on cable and wiring systems which can require a renewal when the equipment is re-installed.
Note 2: BS EN IEC 60079-19 is not applicable to Type of Protection “m”.
BS EN IEC 60079-19 on electrical equipment in the explosive atmosphere is useful for:
The areas where dangerous concentrations and quantities of flammable gases, vapours, or dust may be present in the atmosphere, are referred to as an explosive atmosphere. Protective measures are needed to be applied to the electrical equipment installed in such areas.
BS EN IEC 60079-19 gives guidance to its users for utilizing the most appropriate service facilities for any particular item of electrical equipment in the explosive atmosphere to repair, overhaul, and reclaim, whether they are the facilities of the manufacturer or a suitably competent and equipped repairer of the equipment.
BS EN IEC 60079-19 endorse the necessity of a required level of competence for the repair, overhaul, and reclamation of the equipment. It also gives the instructions that prove to be helpful to the users, and they can carry out the repairing and overhaul of the electrical equipment on their own, by following and implementing the guidelines.
