What is this standard about?
Part 19 of BS EN 60079 gives technical recommendations for the repair, overhaul, reclamation and modification of equipment designed for use in explosive atmospheres.
Who is this standard for?
Why should you use this standard?
Protecting equipment in explosive atmospheres can be lifesaving. Electrical equipment installed in areas with dangerous concentrations of flammable gases, vapours or dusts can lead to explosion due to ignition by sparks, arcs or hot surfaces – so regular overhauls are vital.
This standard provides guidelines to repair such equipment, assuming that good engineering practices are applied throughout. It supplements and modifies the general requirements of BS EN 60079-0.
Note: It does not apply to maintenance other than when repair cannot be disassociated from maintenance.
