BS EN 60079-30-2 is the second part of an international multi-series standard that covers safety requirements for explosive atmospheres.
BS EN 60079-30-2 provides guidance for the application of electrical resistance trace heating systems in areas where explosive atmospheres may be present, with the exclusion of those classified as requiring EPL Ga/Da (traditional relationship to Zone 0 and Zone 20 respectively).
It provides recommendations for the design, installation, maintenance, and repair of trace heating systems including associated control and monitoring equipment.
Note 1: BS EN 60079-30-2 does not cover devices that operate by induction heating, skin effect heating, or direct pipeline heating, nor those intended for stress relieving.
BS EN 60079-30-2 on electrical resistance trace heating is useful for:
The safety of the personnel working in an explosive atmosphere, equipment, protective systems, or components can be achieved by eliminating hazards and/or limiting the risk.
BS EN 60079-30-2 provides you with a comprehensive overview of the application guide for design, installation, and maintenance used in explosive atmospheres. It gives the requirements for trace heating systems to be installed in an explosive atmosphere, along with areas of classification. It considers requirements for equipment protection levels Gb, Gc, Db, and Dc in explosive atmospheres for gases, dust, and fibres/flyings.
BS EN 60079-30-2 covers trace heaters that comprise factory or field (work-site) assembled units, which are series trace heaters, parallel trace heaters, trace heater pads. It covers trace heater panels that have been assembled and/or terminated in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
BS EN 60079-30-2:2017 supersedes BS EN 60079‑30‑2:2007, which is withdrawn. BS EN 60079-30-2:2017 includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous editions:
