What is BS EN IEC 61375‑2‑6 - Train on-board to ground communication about?  

BS EN IEC 61375 is a series of international standards on electronic railway equipment that establishes the specification for the communication between the onboard subsystems and the ground subsystems. 

The communication system, interfaces and protocols are specified as a mobile communication function, using any available wireless technology. 

BS EN IEC 61375‑2‑6 is the sixth sub-part of the second part of the BS EN IEC 61375 series of documents that provides requirements in order to: 

• Select the wireless network on the basis of QoS parameters requested by the application 
• Allow TCMS and/or OMTS applications, installed on-board and communicating on the onboard communication network, to have remote access to applications running on the ground installations 
• Allow applications running on ground installations to have remote access to the TCMS and/or OMTS applications installed on-board. 

NOTE 1: BS EN IEC 61375‑2‑6 covers the security requirements in order to grant access only to authenticated and authorised applications and to allow encryption of exchanged data. 

NOTE 2: BS EN IEC 61375‑2‑6 does not cover the communication of safety-related data between onboard applications and ground applications as well as Internet connectivity service for passengers.
