An electromechanical relay is a type of relay which functions using a magnetic field produced by an electromagnetic coil when a control signal is applied to it. It is called electromechanical since it has moving contacts in the output circuit which are operated by applying an electrical signal.
BS EN 61810-3 - EM applies to elementary relays in which special design and constructional measures are used to ensure that make (normally-open) contacts cannot assume the same state as break (normally-closed) contacts. These relays can be used in self-monitoring control systems, e.g. safety-related control systems. BS EN 61810-3 specifies special requirements and tests for elementary relays with forcibly guided contacts, also known as mechanically linked contacts.
BS EN 61810-3 on Relays with forcibly guided contacts is useful for:
Automation involving the connection and disconnection of electrical circuits is carried out by using electromechanical (EM) relays. The relay is also an electromechanical switch used as a protection device and also as a controlling device for various circuits, equipment, and electrical networks in a power system. The electromechanical relay can be defined as an electrically operated switch that completes or interrupts a circuit by physical movement of electrical contacts into contact with each other.
BS EN 61810-3 provides you with guidelines on forcibly guided (mechanically linked) operation, changeover contacts, mechanical endurance, and operating conditions. In addition, BS EN 61810-3 also gives you details on verification and type tests and characteristic values and marking. Using BS EN 61810-3 guidelines, you can determine requisites and tests for elementary relays with forcibly guided contacts, also known as mechanically linked contacts. BS EN 61810-3 guidelines enable you to manufacture and provide your customer with reliable and high-quality products.
