“Conducted disturbances” are caused when cables or leads coming out of electrical equipment act like antenna picking up local radio frequencies.
BS EN IEC 61000-4-6:2023 is the latest revision of the international standard on how to test to ensure that electrical equipment won’t be adversely affected by conducted disturbances caused by nearby radio frequency fields.

This part of IEC 61000 relates to the immunity requirements of electrical and electronic equipment to electromagnetic disturbances conducted from intended radio frequency (RF) transmitters in the frequency range 150 kHz up to 80 MHz.
The aim of BS EN IEC 61000-4-6:2023 is to establish a common reference for evaluating the functional immunity of electrical and electronic equipment when subjected to conducted disturbances induced by RF fields. The test method documented in BS EN 61000-4-6:2023 describes a consistent method to assess the immunity of equipment or systems against a defined phenomenon.
NOTE: Equipment that doesn’t have at least one conducting wire and/or cable (such as mains supply, signal line or earth connection) which can couple the equipment to the disturbing RF fields is excluded from the scope of this publication.
It’s authoritative. Like all the standards in this series, BS EN IEC 61000-4-6:2023 helps provide manufacturers with consistent and reliable results so they can check that their equipment will operate correctly in the common electromagnetic environment.
It’s current. BS EN IEC 61000-4-6:2023 is the latest version of this international standard so it’s up to date with changing technologies and new test methods. In addition, the benefit of staying current with changes is that when product standards are updated and ask for “the latest edition” of IEC 61000-4-6, manufacturers are ready for it.
It’s user-friendly. Running to more than 80 pages, BS EN IEC 61000-4-6:2023 covers everything users need to know in one document, plus it’s been revised in response to user feedback, so this version is clearer, more streamlined and more practical than its immediate predecessor.
It’s efficient. As a well-thought-through and long-established international standard, BS EN IEC 61000-4-6:2023 ensures thorough testing, but also testing conducted in the most efficient and effective way.
It smooths market entry. BS EN IEC 61000-4-6:2023 is internationally recognized. Products that demonstrate electromagnetic compatibility using this standard are readily accepted in international markets plus retailers and end-users are confident that equipment will perform as required. It can build confidence in your products and your brand.
It manages your risk. The risks of faulty product recall and reputational damage are minimized by using this standard.
