BS EN 50270 specifies requirements for the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) for electrical
apparatus for the detection and measurement of combustible gases, toxic gases or oxygen which are subject to the performance standards for gas detection apparatus.
BS EN 50270 applies to apparatus intended for use in residential, commercial and light industrial environments as well as to apparatus intended for use in industrial environments. The apparatus may be AC-, DC- or battery powered. BS EN 50270 is also applicable to apparatus which is intended for use in hazardous areas which may contain explosive or potentially explosive atmospheres.
Note: BS EN 50270 covers only normal operation and does not cover safety requirements related to EMC phenomena.
BS EN 50270 on electrical apparatus is useful for:
Combustible gas detectors are used in work places that use combustible gas in order to secure worker safety, detect the location of any leakage, and measure gas concentrations. BS EN 50270 provides electromagnetic compatibility test which will ensure that the other electrical instruments do not interfere with the working of electrical apparatus. BS EN 50270 provides test methods that the electrical apparatus works efficiently and prevent any hazards from taking place.
BS EN 50270:2015 supersedes BS EN 50270:2006. BS EN 50270:2015 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 50270:2006. These include:
