BS EN 62489-2 is the second part of an international multi-series standard that covers the uses of electroacoustics for various purposes.
BS EN 62489-2 applies to audio-frequency induction-loop systems for assisted hearing. BS EN 62489-2 may also be applied to such systems used for other purposes, as far as it is applicable.
BS EN 62489-2 is intended for the assessment of human exposure to low-frequency magnetic fields produced by the system, by calculation, and by in-situ testing.
BS EN 62489-2 specifies the technical aspects such as rated values, the situation regarding current standards, configurations of loops, calculations, measurements, comparison of calculated or measured results with guidelines or limits, meeting limits or guidelines, measurement uncertainty, etc. for the assessment of audio-frequency induction loop systems.
Note: BS EN 62489-2 does not deal with other aspects of safety, for which IEC 60065 applies, or with EMC.
BS EN 62489-2 on audio-frequency induction loop systems for assisted hearing is relevant to:
BS EN 62489-2 has numerous references to the ICNIRP Guide, which has profoundly changed between the 1998 and 2010 editions. This has resulted in a change in the physical quantity on which the basic restrictions are established, from tissue current density to induced electric field, resulting in changes to the reference levels and a considerable simplification of the application of the guidelines.
Electroacoustics assessment of the hearing aids is used for verifying if the performance characteristics of a hearing aid are as per its reference specifications. BS EN 62489-2 lays out the technical specifications for using the electroacoustics technique to examine the performance of the audio frequency induction loop system. BS EN 62489-2 gives you detailed information about the test method, explains the principle of the test, helps the users to execute the calculations as well as measurements for the audio frequency induction loop system.
BS EN 62489-2 helps the users to compare the calculated results with the standard guidelines and guides to meet them. It also describes four main types of configurations:
By using BS EN 62489-2, the users can follow the methods of calculating and measuring the low-frequency magnetic field emissions from the loop for assessing conformity with guidelines on limits for human exposure.
