BS EN 62056 discusses electricity metering data exchange. BS EN 62056-7-3 is the seventh part of BS EN 62056 multi-series and discusses wired and wireless M-Bus communication profiles for local and neighbourhood networks. BS EN 62056-7-3 specifies DLMS/COSEM wired and wireless M-Bus communication profiles for local and neighbourhood networks.
The scope of this BS EN 62056-7-3 communication profile standard is restricted to aspects concerning the use of communication protocols in conjunction with the COSEM data model and the DLMS/COSEM application layer.
Note 1: Setting up and managing the M-Bus communication channels of M-Bus devices, the M-Bus network, registering slave devices and – when required – repeaters is out of the scope of BS EN 62056-7-3.

The DLMS/COSEM specification for meter data exchange is based on the client/server model, where the head-end system (HES) acts as a client requesting services, and the end devices (e.g., meters) act as servers providing the services requested. In many cases, the client can reach each meter directly, using unicast, multicast, or broadcast messages.
BS EN 62056-7-3 provides you with the DLMS/COSEM communication profiles for wired and wireless M-Bus networks using the lower layers specified in the EN 13757 series. The DLMS/COSEM wired and wireless M-Bus communication profiles for local and neighbourhood networks may be used for smart energy data exchange with meters as well as with simple consumer displays and home automation systems.
