BS EN 62395 is a European standard that discusses electrical resistance trace heating systems for various applications. The main purpose of EN 62395 is to provide design, installation, maintenance, and testing guidance.
BS EN 62395-1 is the first part of a multi-part series that specifies requirements for electrical resistance trace heating systems and includes general test requirements.
BS EN 62395-1 pertains to trace heating systems that may comprise either factory-fabricated Orfield-assembled (work-site) units; and which may be series and parallel trace heaters or surface heaters (heater pads and heater panels) that have been assembled and/or terminated by the manufacturer’s instructions.
BS EN 62395-1 also includes requirements for termination assemblies and control methods used with trace heating systems.
The products certified according to BS EN 62395-1 are intended to be installed by persons who are suitably trained in the techniques required and that only trained personnel carry out especially critical work, such as the installation of connections and terminations. Installations are intended to be carried out under the supervision of a qualified person who has undergone supplementary training in electric trace heating systems.
Note 1: BS EN 62395-1 does not include or provide for any applications in potentially explosive atmospheres.
Note 2: BS EN 62395-1 does not cover induction, impedance, or skin effect heating.
BS EN 62395-1 on testing requirements for electrical resistance trace heating systems is useful for:
Trace heating is accomplished by attaching specially designed cables made of a resistance element to the pipe or vessel. The electric wires are then employed to keep temperatures stable by compensating for heat loss with their power output.
BS EN 62395-1 provides you with the general requirements and guides you regarding the testing of trace heating equipment used in industrial and commercial applications to evaluate its efficiency, durability and quality.
BS EN 62395-1 also assist you with the installations instructions that assist in the proper installation of the trace heating system to produce maximum results.
In compliance with BS EN 62395-1, you can manufacture highly efficient and safe trace heating systems.
BS EN 62395-1:2013 supersedes BS EN 62395-1:2006 which is withdrawn. BS EN 62395-1:2013 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 62395-1:2006. These include:
