This document looks at the use of traction batteries in relation to electric vehicle design, including pure EVs, hybrid EV’s, plug-in hybrid EVs, and fuel cell hybrid EVs. PAS 7060 provides design guidance for minimizing environmental effects and safety risks from the development, manufacture, customer use, and eventual disposal of the vehicle and likely re-use of the battery.
PAS 7060 on the design and use of electric vehicle batteries can be applied to:
PAS 7060 on the design and use of electric vehicle batteries gives guidance on health, safety, and environmental considerations in the processes of vehicle design, battery integration, and battery use for EVs and PHEVs.
Its use will create efficiencies in the vehicle manufacturing cycle, de-risk batteries in use, optimize re-use and recycling of vehicle batteries, and ultimately improve consumer confidence in EVs and PHEVs.
PAS 7060 covers general health, safety (including fire), competency, and environmental impact considerations in vehicle design and use, and focuses on:
PAS 7060 on the design and use of electric vehicle batteries includes good practice and guidance that will reduce cost and time in vehicle and battery development and also improve customer satisfaction through higher environmental and safety performance. In addition, its use will help organizations:
NOTE 1: This PAS does not cover vehicles other than in the following categories defined in EU Directives 2002/24/EC and 2007/46/EC: motorcycles L1e, L2e, L3e, L4e, L5e, L6e, L7e; passenger cars M1, M2; and light goods vehicles N1. It does not cover charging systems that don’t form part of the vehicle and its health, safety and environmental requirements; nor does it cover considerations in the manufacture of battery cells (and electrodes), battery packs and modules, which are being addressed separately.
NOTE 2: It’s recommended that this PAS be used in conjunction with, and is limited by the scopes of, PAS 7061, Pack and Module and PAS 7062, Vehicle Design.
