Note 1 - This standard does not apply to rotary hammers, even if they can be used as a drill. Rotary hammers are covered by IEC 6284126.

BS EN 62841-2-1 is a collection of information, instructions, policies, and procedures intended to ensure the safe operation of electric motor-operated hand-held tools, transportable tools and lawn and garden machinery.  

BS EN 62841-2-1 provides you with guidelines for tests with the handheld drills and tools to conclude the resistance to heat and fire, moisture resistance, endurance, overload protection of transformers and associated circuits. BS EN 62841-2-1 explains the internal wiring and components, provisions for earthing, supply connection and external flexible cords. BS EN 62841-2-1 guidelines enable you to ensure the safety of your customers when they use the tools and equipment manufactured by you. 

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS EN 62841-2-1:2018+A11:2019 supersedes EN 6074521:2010, which has been withdrawn. BS EN 62841-2-1:2018+A11:2019 includes some technical changes with respect to EN 6074521:2010. These include: 

BS EN 62841-2-1:2018+A11:2019 is divided into four parts: 

• Part 1: General requirements which are common to most hand-held electric motor operated tools (for the purpose of this standard referred to simply as tools) which could come within the scope of this standard 
• Part 2, 3 or 4: Requirements for particular types of tools that either supplement or modify the requirements given in Part 1 to account for the particular hazards and characteristics of these specific tools 
• This Part 2-1 is to be used in conjunction with EN 628411:2015 
• This Part 2-1 supplement or modifies the corresponding clauses in EN 628411:2015, so as to convert it into the European Standard: Particular requirements for hand-held drills and impact drills
