What is BS EN 62841‑4‑1 about ? 

BS EN 62841‑4‑1 specifies is 4-1 part of BS EN 62841 standard. It details technical specifications for electric motor operated hand-held tools, especially chain saws which ensures the standardization of safety requirements for chain saws. 

BS EN 62841‑4‑1 applies to chain saws for cutting wood and designed for use by one person. Chain saws under BS EN 62841‑4‑1 are designed only to be operated with the right hand on the rear handle and the left hand on the front handle.

BS EN 62841‑4‑1 covers all significant hazards, hazardous situations or hazardous events relevant for tools covered by this standard. 

Note: BS EN 62841-4-1 does not apply to - 

• Chain saws designed for use with guide-plate, riving knife or a support or as a stationary or transportable machine 
• Chain saws for tree service as defined in ISO 11681-2 
• Pole-mounted pruners

Why should you use BS EN 62841‑4‑1 ?

What’s changed since the last update ? 

BS EN 62841‑4‑1:2020 supersedes BS EN 60745‑2‑13:2009+A1:2011, which will be withdrawn on 13 March 2024.
