BS EN 50618 is a European standard that applies to low smoke halogen-free, flexible, single-core power cables with cross-linked insulation and sheath. In particular for used at the direct current (d.c.) side of photovoltaic systems, with a nominal d.c. a voltage of 1,5 kV between conductors and between conductor and earth.
The cables are suitable to be used with Class II equipment.
The cables are designed to operate at a normal maximum conductor temperature of 90 °C but for a maximum of 20 000 hours max. conductor temperature of 120 °C at a max. An ambient temperature of 90 °C is permitted.
NOTE: The expected period of use under normal usage conditions as specified in this standard is at least 25 years.
BS EN 50618 on electric cables for photovoltaic systems is relevant to:
Electric cable in electronic systems is a conductor or group of conductors for transmitting electric power or telecommunication signals from one place to another.
BS EN 50618 provides you terms and definitions, rated voltage, requirements for the construction of cables, electrical resistance, and marking.
BS EN 50618 also includes additional requirements on the basis of durability and legibility With dimensional and insulation resistance values which specifies the quality of cables.
Applying BS EN 50618 manufacturers can demonstrate the reliability of their products and build trust in their use throughout the performance of photovoltaic systems.
