ISO 1217 discusses displacement compressors. displacement compressor is a system that compresses the air by the displacement of a mechanical linkage reducing the volume. Displacement compressors draw in and capture a volume of air in a chamber. They then reduce the volume of the chamber to compress the air. ISO 1217 specifies methods for acceptance tests regarding volume rate of flow and power requirements of displacement compressors. ISO 1217 also specifies methods for testing liquid-ring type compressors.
ISO 1217 specifies the operating and testing conditions which apply when a full performance test is specified. For compressors manufactured in batches or in continuous production quantities and supplied against specified data, the tests described in ISO 1217 are considered equivalent alternatives. ISO 1217 specifies standard inlet conditions for reference purposes and indicates the uncertainty of measurement.
Note: ISO 1217 is not applicable to noise statements, which are identified in ISO 2151.
ISO 1217 on displacement compressors is useful for:
A displacement compressor is one that operates by drawing in a discrete volume of gas from its inlet then forcing that gas to exit via the compressor's outlet. The increase in the pressure of the gas is due, at least in part, to the compressor pumping it at a mass flow rate that cannot pass through the outlet at the lower pressure and density of the inlet. ISO 1217 applies to any electrically driven compressor manufactured in batches or in continuous production quantities and supplied against specified data having variable speed drive (e.g., variable frequency drive, direct current drive and switched reluctance), which incorporates a displacement compressor of any type driven by an electric motor.
ISO 1217 gives detailed instructions for a full performance test, including the measurement of volume flow rate and power requirement, the correction of measured values to specified conditions and means of comparing the corrected values with the guaranteed conditions. ISO 1217 specifies methods for determining the value of the tolerances to be applied to the measurement of flow, power, and specific power. Using ISO 1217 you can specify methods for acceptance tests regarding volume rate of flow and power requirements of displacement compressors.
