A buffer solution (more precisely, pH buffer or hydrogen ion buffer) is an aqueous solution consisting of a mixture of a weak acid and its conjugate base, or vice versa. Its pH changes very little when a small amount of strong acid or base is added to it. ISO 23497 specifies requirements for technical buffer solutions.
These buffer solutions are preferably used for the calibration and adjustment of technical pH measuring equipment as well as pH measuring installations in laboratories. Measuring methods are given to determine pH values and buffer capacities of such buffer solutions based on pH reference buffer solutions in accordance with ISO 23496.
ISO 23497 on technical buffer solution pH is useful for:
Buffer solutions are used as a means of keeping pH at a nearly constant value in a wide variety of chemical applications. In nature, many systems use buffering for pH regulation. ISO 23497 discusses various pH values and buffer capacities of technical buffer solutions. The measurement of pH values of technical buffer solutions and measurement of the buffer capacity has been discussed in detail in ISO 23497.
Examples of technical buffer solutions have also been provided in ISO 23497. Using ISO 23497 guidelines, you would be able to determine the pH value of technical buffer solutions for the calibration of technical measuring installations, so that you can provide your customers with suitable products.
