BS EN 10163-2 is the second part of a European multi-series standard that covers the best practices for manufacturing high-quality steel products
BS EN 10163-2 specifies the delivery requirements which apply to the surface condition of hot-rolled plates and the surface condition of the faces of wide flats with thicknesses of 3 mm ≤ t ≤ 400 mm.
Note: For plates with a thickness > 400 mm special agreements should be made at the time of the order.
BS EN 10163-2 on delivery requirements for surface condition of hot-rolled steel plates is useful for:
Surface conditions include imperfections for long products, which are surface discontinuities with a depth and/or area equal to or less than a specified limiting value. When the surface discontinuities with a depth and/or area are greater than a specified limiting value, it is called a defect for long products.
BS EN 10163-2 lays down the classification of the surface condition of hot-rolled plates and the surface condition of the faces of wide flats, depending upon the depth and the area affected. It provides you with specifications for maximum permissible limits for imperfections and defects according to the classes.
BS EN 10163-2 talks about the measures to be taken for repairing such problematic surface conditions of the steel sections depending on their damage level.
Thus, BS EN 10163-2 provides you with comprehensive information useful for fixing the surface conditions of the hot-rolled steel plates, wide flats, and sections, which helps users to manufacture the steel products with negligible or no manufacturing defects.
