PD CEN/TR 17112 provides innovative requirements and test methods applicable to any category of bicycle (city/trekking, MTB, young adult, and racing) containing components manufactured, in part or whole, from composite materials. Its aim is to provide technical solutions that reduce the risk of component failure and rider injury during the specified use of such bicycles.
PD CEN/TR 17112 includes requirements and test methods validated by the bicycle industry and test houses for composite assemblies including forks, frames, wheels, saddle rails, and seat posts.
PD CEN/TR 17112 makes reference to current “state of the art” standards in the field of bicycles, agreed at the CEN level through the publication of EN ISO 4210- series of standards. Therefore, the requirements and tests proposed in PD CEN/TR 17112 are intended to be read and applied in accordance with the appropriate EN ISO 4210 standard.
NOTE: Please note that the tests described in this TR refer in places to paragraph numbers from the applicable EN ISO 4210- series.
PD CEN/TR 17112 on composite material used in bicycles is beneficial for
A composite material is a combination of two materials with different physical and chemical properties. When they are combined they create a material that is specialized to do a certain job, for instance, to become stronger, lighter, or resistant to electricity.
PD CEN/TR 17112 provides guidance on steerer tube fatigue test, heat resistance testing for composite wheels, composite saddle rail test, composite seat post fatigue testing.
As a user of PD CEN/TR 17112, you can be ensured of requirements and test methods for composite materials used in manufacturing bicycles. With obedience and compliance to PD CEN/TR 17112, you can improve the quality of composite materials which equivalently improve the quality of the bicycle. PD CEN/TR 17112 will help users develop their expertise with composite materials, as well as manage risk, increase trust, grow sustainably, and accelerate innovation. With PD CEN/TR 17112 you can reduce the significant risk of component failure and rider injury. Limiting risks can build consumer trust and confidence in bicycles. PD CEN/TR 17112 allows an easy and clear understanding of requirements for the composite materials used in bicycles.
