ISO 21013‑1 is an International Standard that focuses on cryogenic vessels. It gives the best requirements for pressure-relief accessories for cryogenic service and reclosable pressure-relief valves.
ISO 21013‑1 specifies the requirements for the design, manufacture and testing of pressure relief valves for cryogenic service, i.e., for operation with cryogenic fluids below −10 °C in addition to operation at ambient temperatures from ambient to cryogenic.
ISO 21013‑1 is applicable to valves not exceeding a size of DN 150 designed to relieve single-phase vapours or gases. A valve can be specified, constructed, and tested such that it is suitable for use with more than one gas or with mixtures of gases.
Note: ISO 21013‑1 does not provide methods for determining the capacity of relief valve(s) for a particular cryogenic vessel.
ISO 21013‑1 on reclosable pressure-relief valves is useful for:
A cryogenic valve is often designed to respond to high pressure by opening the valve, allowing gas or other media to flow freely through it. Cryogenic valves are designed to safely retain such gases and work well during transit because they can operate at high and low pressures.
ISO 21013‑1 provides you with guidelines to enable the users with the terminology, requirements, and test methods for the quality assurance of valves for cryogenic service. This helps them to keep cryogenic gases or other mediums secure and safe, cryogenic valves are kept in a naturally closed condition.
