BS EN 50520 discusses about the cover plates and cover tapes.
BS EN 50520 establishes the requirements and tests for cover plates and cover tapes used for the mechanical protection, identification and warning of the location of buried cables or buried conduits.
Note: BS EN 50520 does not apply to meshes and tapes.
BS EN 50520 on cover plates and cover tapes is useful for:
Cover plate is a plate with a defined length and width that are linked one to another and are located underground, above the cables and/or conduits.
Cover tape is a tape with a defined width that are located underground, above the cable and/or conduits.
As a user of BS EN 50520, you will be able to provide the facility to protect against mechanical damage to the underground cable and/or conduits installation. It will also help you to identify in a prominent manner the location of the underground cables and/or conduit installations along with the length and width.
BS EN 50520 provides you the requirements of cover plates and cover tapes which if designed and constructed in accordance with BS EN 50520 and installed according to manufacturer’s instruction, helps you ensure mechanical protection and location warning of cables or conduits in all their extension (length and width).
BS EN 50520:2020 supersedes BS EN 50520:2009, which is withdrawn. BS EN 50520:2020 has re-dated normative reference with respect to BS EN 50520:2009.
