To support the development of connected and automated mobility (CAM), the industry called for a universally agreed glossary of common terms and definitions. BSI Flex 1890 v5.0:2023-04 is the fifth iteration of this standard and includes the most up to date and consistent terms, which also reflect the Law Commission’s latest recommendations on remote driving.
The vocabulary defines terms, abbreviations, and acronyms for the connected and automated mobility (CAM) sector, focusing on those relating to vehicles and associated technologies.
It covers terms relating to connectivity and automation of roadgoing, land-based vehicles and their users. BSI Flex 1890 v5.0:2023-04 does not cover terms that are manufacturer-specific.

This is a revision of BSI Flex 1890 v4.0:2022-03. The last iteration of the vocabulary was published in January 2022. Since then, stakeholder reports have been published that raised the need to review the defined terms and add to/amend them as technology has advanced. Plus, the Law Commission has released its recommendations on remote driving.
