BS EN 13215:2016+A1:2020

What is BS EN 13215 about? 

BS EN 13215 specifies the rating conditions, tolerances, and presentation of the manufacturer's performance data for condensing units for refrigeration with compressors of the positive displacement type. These include single-stage compressors and single and two-stage compressors having an integrated means of fluid subcooling.  

BS EN 13215 specifies the technical specifications such as parameters for the presentation of performance data, general requirements, part-load performance data, tabular or graphical form, determination of power absorbed by the condensing unit, etc. to evaluate the performance data for open compressors at the rated speed, and motor compressors at the rated voltage and frequency.

BS EN 13215 on condensing units for refrigeration is useful for:

Why should you use BS EN 13215? 

Condensing units are the combination of one or more compressors, condensers/gas coolers and, where applicable, liquid receivers and regularly furnished accessories.  

BS EN 13215 gives you information about the representation of performance data of a condensing unit for refrigeration in tabular or in graphical form. It provides you with the standard reference point for the performance of the condensing unit. 

BS EN 13215 gives you procedures to calculate the performance at various suction temperatures/superheat and at various compressor speeds as well as gives correction factors in order to evaluate the errors and eliminate them immediately. 

BS EN 13215 also informs you about other performance data that influence the working of the condensing units such as the swept volume, number of cylinders and speed range etc, as well as enlightens the users about the method for designation of refrigerants in accordance with global standards.

What’s changed since the last update? 

BS EN 13215:2016+A1:2020 supersedes BS EN 13215:2016, which is withdrawn. 

BS EN 13215:2016+A1:2020 includes the following changes: 

• Part load conditions according to M/495 “Standardisation mandate to CEN, CENELEC and ETSI under Directive 2009/125/EC relating to harmonised standards in the field of Ecodesign” are taken into account 
• Inclusion of the calculation of seasonal energy performance ratio (SEPR)
