What is this standard about?

It’s crucial to prevent falls from height since this is one of the largest causes of death and injury in the workplace. This standard brings together best practice regarding personal fall protection from a large number of sources including information from manufacturers, research studies and training organizations.

Why should you use this standard?

It details the types of fall protection system and equipment available and gives guidance on their selection, use and maintenance, as well as the training of users. It also provides direction on the rescue of people working at a height, in the event of an accident.

What’s changed since the last update?

This first amendment to BS 8437 supersedes the 2005 version of the standard which has been withdrawn. The standard was amended to take in changes to regulation, other standards and technical revisions.
