What is BS 7121-1:2006?
BS 7121-1: 2006 gives best practice recommendations for the safe installation and use of cranes and lifting equipment, including self-erecting tower cranes. By following the safety measures set out within this standard, construction workers and operators will contribute to occupational safety while complying with legislation. BS 7121-1:2006 also looks at the appropriate selection and training of all personnel dealing with the safe installation and use of cranes.
BS 7121-5:2006 covers subjects such as the selection of tower cranes and planning the installation – including site specific design work. It also looks at erection and extension, and outlines thorough examinations, for example mechanical testing. Other topics include maintenance, operation and dismantling, as well as the safety measures that should be taken by anyone performing these tasks.
