BS IEC 60313 is an International Standard that discusses coaxial connectors used in nuclear laboratory instrumentation. The main purpose of BS IEC 60313 is to ensure coaxial connectors play a positive role in the performance of electrical instruments.
BS IEC 60313 applies to coaxial connectors for electrical instruments used in nuclear laboratories. While particularly useful in such applications, the connectors included in BS IEC 60313 are also useful in other applications.
However, BS IEC 60313 does not necessarily apply to nuclear power installations where special requirements may necessitate the use of other connectors, some of which are described in various parts of IEC 60169.
BS IEC 60313 on coaxial connectors for nuclear laboratory instrumentation is useful for:
Coaxial connectors in nuclear laboratory instrumentation are used to top and tail the cables and connect devices to external power supplies, or to connect cables to each other while maintaining the outer interference shielding. The use of a limited number of connectors has the advantage of easing instrument interoperability and reducing the types of connecting cable assemblies required.
BS IEC 60313 recommends a restricted family of approved standard coaxial connectors. It includes a medium size, a miniature and a subminiature connector to accommodate a range of applications for use with peak voltages not exceeding 500 V. Also included is a small high-voltage connector for voltages up to 5 kV.
To comply with BS IEC 60313, nuclear laboratory instruments shall use the connectors listed for nuclear signal applications.
BS IEC 60313 can thus ensure you choose the right coaxial connectors for electrical instruments in nuclear laboratories.
