BS EN ISO 8130-2:2021

What is ISO 8130-2 about?  

ISO 8130 discusses coating powders. ISO 8130-2 is the second part of the ISO 8130 multi-series and discusses the determination of density.  

ISO 8130 specifies a method for the determination of density for all types of coating powders using a gas comparison pyknometer.

Why should you use ISO 8130-2?  

Density is a measure of mass per unit of volume, frequently expressed in g/cm3. It has been implied that a lower coating density means better coverage. In such an instance it is accepted that a given weight of an uncured coating with a lower density covers a greater area than does a higher density product.

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS EN ISO 8130-2:2021 supersedes BS EN ISO 8130-2:2010, which is withdrawn. BS EN ISO 8130-2:2021 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN ISO 8130-2:2010. These include: 

• The terms and definitions clause (Clause 3) has been added 
• The gas has been changed from air or helium to helium or nitrogen 
• The procedure has been aligned with actual practice 
• The acceptable difference between the two results (Clause 9) is given as a percentage 
• The scope has been revised editorially, the text has been editorially revised, and the normative references have been updated
