Why should you use this standard?
It gives the most up-to-date guidelines and recommendations to ensure the safety of children’s beds for domestic use with a maximum internal width of 1 000 mm and a maximum height of bed base of 400 mm.
The requirements apply to children’s beds that are fully assembled and ready for use. The specifications cover chemical hazards, thermal hazards and those posed by mechanical issues such as gaps, suffocation, protruding parts and wires, strength of side guards and/or safety rails.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS 8509:2008+A1:2011 has been fully revised by experts. The 2011 Amendment brings it up to date with technological developments and industry best practice.
