What is BS EN IEC 62275 on Cable ties about? 

BS EN IEC 62275 is an international standard that covers components for cable management systems.  

BS EN IEC 62275 specifies requirements for metallic, non-metallic, and composite cable ties and their associated fixing devices used for the management and support of wiring systems in electrical installations. 

BS EN IEC 62275 contains requirements for the mechanical interface of an adhesive fixing device to a solid surface. It does not consider the mechanical behaviour of the solid surface in itself. 

Note 1: BS EN IEC 62275 does not contain requirements that evaluate any electrical insulation properties of the cable tie or mechanical protection of the cables provided by the cable tie. 

Note 2: BS EN IEC 62275 does not consider the mechanical interface, for example, the mounting screw, of a fixing device other than adhesive to a solid surface.

What’s changed since the last update? 

BS EN IEC 62275:2019 supersedes BS EN 62275:2015, which is withdrawn. BS EN IEC 62275:2019 contains the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: 

• Consideration of adhesive fixing devices; revised and updated normative references 
• Modified definitions for metallic and composite cable ties, the addition of new definitions 
• Improvement of test procedures; new figures for the typical arrangement of test assembly for fixing devices and for integral fixing devices

Please note, the CMV of the standard is not adopted, and therefore doesn’t contain an additional national foreword, or national annex that might be contained in the BS adoption of the standard. However the IEC text that forms the content of the standard is identical to the BS adoption of the standard.
