BS ISO 6707-1:2020

What is ISO 6707-1 about?   

ISO 6707 is an International Standard that discusses buildings and civil engineering works. Given the rapid expansion of global construction projects and the international market for construction projects, ISO 6707-1 specifically seeks to harmonize the language used in the construction industry.  ISO 6707-1 is the first part in the multi-series of documents that contains the terms and definitions of general concepts to establish a vocabulary applicable to buildings and civil engineering works.  

ISO 6707-1 comprises of: 

• Fundamental concepts, which can be the starting point for other, more specific, definitions 
• More specific concepts, used in several areas of construction and frequently used in standards, regulations, and contracts

Why should you use ISO 6707-1?

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS ISO 6707-1:2020 supersedes BS ISO 6707‑1:2017, which is withdrawn. BS ISO 6707-1:2020 

includes some technical changes with respect to BS ISO 6707‑1:2017. These include: 

• Some ambiguous concepts have been clarified 
• The edition is published in English and Russian 
• The wood and timber subclause has been updated to incorporate changes made to the latest edition of ISO 24294 
• The occasions where a single term is used to represent more than one concept have been reduced
