This British Standard is the official English language version of EN ISO 8339:2005. It is identical with ISO 8339:2005. It supersedes BS EN 28339:1991 which is withdrawn.

The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted to Technical Committee B/547, Sealants for building and construction, which has the responsibility to:

— aid enquirers to understand the text;
— present to the responsible international/European committee any enquiries on the interpretation, or proposals for change, and keep UK interests informed;
— monitor related international and European developments and promulgate them in the UK.

A list of organizations represented on this committee can be obtained on request to its secretary.

Additional information:

For the purpose of this standard the definition of break is taken as the elongation achieved at the point of maximum tensile stress. This figure can either be determined from the stress/strain curve or measured directly by the control software of the tensile testing equipment.
