PD CEN/TR 16957 is an international standard used for bio-based products.
Bio-based products from forestry and agriculture have a long history of application, such as, paper, board, and various chemicals and materials. The last decade has seen the emergence of new bio-based products in the market.
The bio-based content of a product does not provide information on its environmental impact or sustainability, which may be assessed through LCA and sustaininability criteria. In addition, transparent and unambiguous communication within bio-based value chains is facilitated by a harmonized framework for certification and declaration.
PD CEN/TR 16957 provides guidance on how to compile an inventory for the end-of-life phase in LCA of bio-based products.
Note: The order of the end-of-life options indicated in Figure 1 respect the Directive 2008/98/EC on waste. This list is not exhaustive but illustrates the content of this Technical Report.
PD CEN/TR 16957 on Bio-based products is useful for:
Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) is useful in estimating the direct and indirect inputs that are released at each step of the biofuel pathway.
By using PD CEN/TR 16957 you can identify the properties of the waste from bio-based products.
With the help of PD CEN/TR 16957, you can determine the parameters for bio-based waste, landfill models and aerobic WWT model. Solid waste incineration is useful in converting the waste material into combustion. PD CEN/TR 16957 provides best practice guidance in recycling and reusing these life Cycle Inventory (LCI) of bio-based products. These guidelines facilitate transparent and unambiguous communication within bio-based value chains.
